All Green Street Cottages homes are certified Zero Energy Ready by the U.S. Department of Energy. Using green construction materials and techniques, and partial solar on the garage, we can reduce your energy costs by 65% compared to a standard new home according to a HERS index score of 35. However, our first five homes we’ve built at Villages at Cramerton Mills have scored as low as -7 . By upgrading to full solar, your home can be made Zero Energy, meaning it has the ability to produce as much energy as it consumes, bringing your energy costs close to zero.
-
Energy costs vary based on the size of the home, the number of people living there and how you manage your energy use. With a savings of 65% compared to an average new home, Green Street Cottages can save you more than $1,000 per year – and in some cases several thousand per year. Our pilot home in York, SC, was 4,000 square feet with four adults living in the home and had an average monthly energy bill of $140/month without the partial solar on the garage, which comes standard in all Villages at Cramerton Mills homes.

Green Street Cottages homes feature Mitsubishi Ductless Comfort Systems. Besides being 2.5 times more energy-efficient than the industry standard, the ductless system improves indoor air quality by reducing dust, bacteria and pollen. We also use No-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, which significantly reduces indoor air pollution. VOCs have been linked to health problems, such as asthma, respiratory diseases, watery eyes and cancer.
